As our company continues to grow, we’re looking for a Junior Fashion Designer (with strong sewing skills) to join us in our studio.

The Role

This role is perfect for someone who:

  • Has excellent sewing skills and loves bringing garments to life.

  • Thrives in a calm, focused studio environment.

  • Can work independently for long periods with patience and consistency.

  • Wants to grow, learn, and contribute to meaningful couture bridal pieces.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting with corset-making and structured dress construction.

  • Following established couture methods and standards (training provided).

  • Keeping the studio workspace clean, organized, and professional.

Skills & Experience

✅ Strong sewing skills — bridal or eveningwear experience highly valued.
✅ Confident working with corsetry, delicate fabrics, and finishing techniques.
✅ Patternmaking is not required, but will be a huge advantage.
✅ Ability to focus, work independently, and consistently deliver quality results.

What We Offer

  • $28/hour + project bonuses.

  • Training in Maria Gabriela Couture’s couture techniques and standards.

  • Opportunity to be part of a growing couture fashion house.

  • Flexibility: part-time or full-time options available (2–4 days per week).

  • A clear path: if the trial goes well, potential for long-term collaboration (with some remote flexibility in the future).

Important Details

  • This is an Independent Contractor role (you will invoice us and manage your own taxes/ACC).

  • You must be based in New Zealand and able to work in our studio.

  • Initial contract: 3-month trial starting January 2026, with potential to extend.

The Right Candidate

We’re looking for someone with:
